FAQ
Everything you might want to know about finding and saving Bible verses.
About Verses
- What is Verses?
- Verses is a Bible verse discovery app. Instead of searching by book and chapter, you search by how you feel, anxious, grateful, overwhelmed, hopeful. Verses finds the Scripture that speaks to that moment.
- Do I need an account to use Verses?
- No. Verses works without any account. You can search and save verses immediately. Sign in with Google only if you want your saved verses backed up and accessible on multiple devices.
- Which Bible translations are available?
- Three translations are available: King James Version (KJV), American Standard Version (ASV), and World English Bible (WEB). You can switch between them inside the app. All three are public domain — modern translations like NIV or ESV are under copyright and require licensing fees that aren't practical for a small indie app.
Finding verses
- How does the search work?
- Type a feeling, season, or situation, "anxious", "grieving", "starting over", "can't sleep", and Verses returns Scripture matched to that state. Results are curated, not random, and reflect common human experiences the Bible speaks directly to.
- Can I search by book or reference?
- Not directly, Verses is designed for discovery by mood, not by reference. If you know the verse you're looking for, any Bible app will serve you better. Verses is for the moments when you don't know exactly where to look.
- How many moods and situations are covered?
- Dozens, with more being added regularly. If you search for something and find no results, that's useful feedback, reach out and we'll consider adding it.
Saving verses
- How do I save a verse?
- Tap the bookmark icon on any verse card to save it. Saved verses appear in your collection, accessible from the menu.
- How many verses can I save for free?
- Up to 10 saved verses on the free tier. When you reach the limit, you'll be prompted to upgrade to Pro ($7.99/year) for unlimited saves.
- What happens to my saved verses if I clear my browser?
- On the free tier, your verses are stored in your browser's local storage, clearing site data will remove them. Sign in with Google (free) to back them up to the cloud so they're safe across devices and browser resets.
Trial & payment
- How does the free trial work?
- Your first 14 days are free. No payment required upfront. After the trial, you can continue on the free tier (up to 10 saved verses, synced to the cloud when signed in) or subscribe to Pro for $7.99 per year.
- What does Verses Pro include?
- Unlimited saved verses. Cloud sync is free for all signed-in users — Pro removes the 10-verse save limit.
- How do I cancel?
- Cancel any time through the LemonSqueezy customer portal (linked in your subscription email). You keep Pro access until the end of your billing period.
- Are refunds available?
- Yes, full refund within 14 days of your first payment, no questions asked. See our Refund Policy.
Installation
- Is there an app to download?
- No download needed. Verses is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Open the site in your browser, tap the share or menu button, and choose Add to Home Screen. It installs like a native app and works from your home screen — on iPhone, Android, and desktop.
- How do updates work?
- Updates happen automatically in the background. The next time you open Verses after an update has been published, the new version loads — no app store, no manual install.
- Why is email sign-in not available on my phone?
- Magic links open in your phone's browser (Safari or Chrome), which is a separate context from the installed app. The sign-in wouldn't carry over. To keep things simple and reliable, the installed app on iPhone and Android uses Google Sign-In only. If you don't have a Google account, you can sign in with a magic link using the browser version of Verses at verses.ehzie.com.
Data & privacy
- Does Verses track me or show ads?
- No. No advertising trackers, no behavioural profiling, no cookies for tracking. Verses uses Firebase for auth and sync, Sentry for bug reporting, and LemonSqueezy for payments. That's it.
- How do I delete my saved verses?
- You can delete individual verses from your collection, or clear all data from Settings. If you're signed in, your cloud data is deleted too.
Attributions
- What open-source resources does Verses use?
- Bible text served via bible-api.com. KJV, ASV, and WEB translations are public domain. Topic mapping informed by OpenBible.info (CC BY 3.0). Icons by Lucide (MIT).
